Wow I’m happy to say I eat most of these foods on a fairly regular basis! This of course is just a basic list of foods that the Dr. feels are important to keep your liver healthy. He does not however indicate exactly how much you should eat of each of these items on a regular basis, or how to incorporate it in your diet. I don’t see anything that is in direct contradiction to the Ayurveda lifestyle or diet as it applies to cleanse the liver. Could it be I’m missing something? Let me know what you think. And let me know how many items you think are in your diet and whether they fit with the Ayurvedic consumption plan you would typically enjoy.

Vata, Pitta and Kapha, Does The Western World Know?

It now seems that there exists some evidence for real application of the ancient Vata, Pitta, and Kapha designations in the ancient medicinal world of Ayurveda. Through the use of genetic markers and using a large sample that included men from unrelated ancestry there now appears to be a viable connection to the three classifications that have long been promoted under Ayurvedic principles. These findings illustrate that ancient practitioners intrinsically understood the specialized nature of medical treatment and how it is necessary to treat each individual based on certain characteristics that once born belong to the individual in both a physical and spiritual nature.

Read Where The Interconnection Of Western Genetics and Ayurveda Meet…

Study shows phenotypic classification by traditional Indian medicine has a genetic basis and ancient medicine in a way is personalized medicine

As part of Ayurveda, Indian medical practitioners have for centuries categorized individuals under three major types under the umbrella concept of Prakriti—Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Now, a team of Indian scientists, using genome analysis, have published a paper in Nature journal showing this phenotypic classification by traditional Indian medicine indeed has a genetic basis and ancient medicine in a way is personalised medicine. For their study, researchers conducted a genomewide SNP, or single nucleotide polymorphism, analysis on 262 men.

The scientists found 52 SNPs, or genetic variations, which could be used as distinguishing factors for the three Prakritis. Using principal component analysis of these SNPs, the individuals were categorized into the three categories. For comparative analysis, researchers used data from 297 Indian samples, including 150 Dravidians, 80 Indo-Europeans, 35 Austro-Asiatics, 27 Tibeto-Burmans and five Great Andamanese. In addition, 15 trios of Dravidians, and 15 trios of Indo-Europeans were used for imputation.

“Interestingly, although we had individuals from different ancestries and communities, they all got classified into these three classifications. This was a sign there is real science behind this Ayurvedic classification,” said Thangaraj, who is one the co-authors of the paper.

Previous efforts to link Prakriti classification with genetic information and variations have not made much way. An important finding in this paper was that a gene called PGM1 correlates with the phenotype of Pitta, as is described in the ancient Ayurvedic text of Charak Samhita. With this, the researchers concluded the phenotypic classification of India’s traditional medicine has a genetic basis.

Common Sense Eating Passed Down Over The Passing Of Time

It only stands to reason that the very survival of the eating traditions of Ayurveda are true to ourselves and our greatest well-being. If you take into consideration the passing of time and of all the cuisines and style tastes that have fallen away then coming to terms with the eating style brought forth in Ayurveda and Vegetarianism make even more sense; even under the most critical analysis. Certainly we can adjust to our own personal taste and habits but the more you learn about the history of Ayurveda the more you’ll feel compelled to participate.

Do You Know Madhur Jaffrey? Learn More Below

Washington – When it comes to vegetarian cooking, few cuisines in the world can match India’s, and when it comes to Indian cooking, few authors can match Madhur Jaffrey.

Jaffrey, 82, has written more than 20 books, including the mammoth World Vegetarian in 2002, but her latest, Vegetarian India, is the first time she has focused exclusively on the nation’s meatless cooking. To hear her tell it, this is the book she has long wanted to write.

Among the Eastern countries where vegetarianism thrives, “only India has a robust history of it that covers the different classes and regions of an entire subcontinent, from pauper to billionaire and from the mountainous Himalayan peaks in the north to the lush tropics of the south,” she writes in the introduction. More pointedly: “Indian vegetarian foods are perhaps the most flavourful and the most varied in the entire world.”

Brown Or White What Would You Choose?

Carbohydrates have gotten such a bad name but how can you possibly expect to live an Ayurveda lifestyle without rice? White rice seems to have especially taken a hard hit lately and certainly you can’t go wrong with brown rice. Brown rice is certainly a preferred choice for me. For some of us it’s just a matter of preference. Regardless of your point of view you can get a good frame of reference from the article below.

Don’t Guess When You Can Know? Read More Below…

White rice (and even brown) are getting a bad rap, especially with the popularity of the Paleo diet. Some are cutting out rice all together as its rumored to have little nutritional value and to cause weight gain, while others are convinced that only brown rice should be eaten. Ayurveda (ancient India’s timeless science of life) believes otherwise, and looks not only at the quality of the rice itself, but who’s eating it and when.

There are a few foods that Ayurveda has established as good for everyone, year round, and rice is number one on the list. No matter what your prakriti (constitution, as everyone is unique) and no matter what season, rice holds a place in the diet.

However, there’s a time for white rice, and a time for brown. Ayurveda doesn’t judge rice simply on its fiber content and calorie count as a Western perspective might, but takes into account who’s eating it, when they’re eating it, and what happens to the rice throughout digestion.

When We Have Ingrained Habits We Simply Don’t Realize…

I was watching a documentary on Great Britain and in one segment the show producers gained access to the inner workings of Big Ben. This giant tower clock has minute hands on four sides that are 11 feet long! The clock keeper went on to explain that by virtue of their size that the minute hands often acted like sails catching the wind. On especially windy days and nights the minute hands can actually drive the inner mechanisms forward or back; effecting the accuracy of the clock. Big Ben has a very big pendulum meant to assure accuracy. What is remarkable that given the grand scale of Big Ben throughout, the clock keepers account for inaccuracies by placing pennies on the pendulum. A fraction of an ounce in a penny drives the timing on the hammer to strike the 16 ton bell to ring true!

Dr. Vinick explains how Ayurveda tweaks small errors to return optimal health see below…

In Ayurvedic medicine we find that most conditions arise out of errors. Either knowingly or unknowingly. In diet and lifestyle. And so, in Ayurveda, we look very closely at diet and lifestyle. We look at what created that condition, what created that imbalance long before a condition is diagnosed.

There are subtle imbalances that arise due to these, the errors in diet and lifestyle. Once we determine what caused these imbalances, we can make subtle changes. Often times a few changes in diet and lifestyle can produce a profound effect in the overall course of an individual’s life. We can, prevent many of these chronic conditions, chronic pain, fibromyalgia. The whole host of auto-immune diseases can be prevented if the imbalance can be determined in its early stages. And then reversed so that the psychophysiology returns to its normal state of functioning.

I’m licensed as a chiropractor. But I’ve specialize in Ayurveda for probably twenty years in addition to my chiropractic practice. And, I can honestly say that those individuals that come. and are able to follow the simple dietary and lifestyle recommendations, improve. Now that’s not to say that everyone is going to recover that, that isn’t the case. It depends upon how so many factors the how advanced their condition is. and also the, the the knowledge of the practitioner.

Their ability to correctly diagnose the problem and give the specific correct recommendations. But a lot of it falls on the patient, because it’s the patient. This is an active therapy, it’s not a passive therapy.

Chiropractic is a passive therapy. The person comes in, they get adjusted. Acupuncture is a passive therapy, massage therapy, these are passive therapies. Ayurveda has some passive therapies, but primarily it’s involves activity and participation from patient. It depends upon the ability of the person to follow through with those recommendations.

In my twenty years of clinical experience, of those patients that have more or less pretty well followed through with the recommendations, I’ve seen improvement. Stress, is due to non-harmonious lifestyle factors. In addition to the physiology being stressed, by bad food.

Create Your Very Own Ayurvedic Source For Stunning Eyes…

Kohl has been used over the millennium by ancient cultures for healthy treatment and protection of the soft tissue around the eyes by both Indian and Egyptian cultures. “…Kohl has been worn traditionally… (ca. 3100 BCE) by Egyptian queens and noble women…Kohl was originally used as protection against eye ailments. There was also a belief that darkening around the eyes would protect one from the harsh rays of the sun…” (Source) Did you know, however , that it is very possible to create your own?

The Next Best Thing To Traveling Back In Time…

None of the kajals today are herbal and most certainly not the non smudging ones. So here I got an idea to make a completely herbal kajal from home. This is the oldest recipe of kajal since from the ancient times written in ayurveda (well my grandfather read them in Vedas). Here is the procedure below!

Things You Will Need:

A copper plate with upward edges

A silver box (proper silver not steel)

Pure castor oil

Cotton threads made directly out of cotton which you use in pooja

Ghee

Spoon

A bronze deepam

camphor

Procedure:

1. As shown in the figure, fill the castor oil around 100 ml into the bronze deepam. You can see the cotton deepam I used in the second pic. Take 3 or 4 and use this to light.

2. By using two tumblers, support the copper plate on top of the deepam and light it. (As shown in the first pic of this post!) Make sure the plate is a bit more in height than the deepam.

3. If you lie down and observe you can see the fire lapping at the copper plate making it blacker and blacker. Wait till it consumes the whole oil. Be careful as it will be very hot.

4. Now you see the ash collected in the plate and in the deepam? Collect as much as you can into a mixing plastic bowl.

5. Using little ghee, mix this into a paste. Add camphor sparsely. Don’t use more than 4 to 5 smallest beads the size of sugar crystals.

6. Transfer it into a silver box
